Chargers Sweep Lorain County in Straight Sets
The Edison State Community College volleyball team continued its strong start to the season with a 3-0 sweep over Lorain County Community College on Saturday, September 20, in the Charger Gymnasium. The Chargers won by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 28-26, improving to 4-0 in OCCAC play and 15-2 overall.

Edison State came out fast in the opening set, leaning on strong hitting from Bailey Poppe, who tallied 23 kills on the day while adding 16 digs and two blocks. The Lady Chargers stayed steady in the second set, with Lily Riegel and Kylie Green combining for 21 kills to give Edison State a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The third set was the most competitive of the afternoon, as Lorain County rallied behind standout Gabriella Habeck, who finished with 15 kills and 10 digs. The Commodores pushed the Lady Chargers past the 25-point mark, but Edison State held its composure and secured the sweep with a 28-26 victory.
Head Coach Julia Brandewie praised the team's resilience, noting how the Lady Chargers responded to pressure in the final frame.
"This was a great test for us," Coach Brandewie said. "Lorain County played hard and pushed us, especially in the third set, but our players stepped up when it mattered most."
With the win, Edison State remains perfect in conference play and continues to build momentum heading deeper into the season.
The Lady Chargers return to action during a home game on Friday, September 26, versus Cuyahoga Community College at 6 p.m.
