As Edison State Community College's volleyball team wraps up their regular season, three players have been named recipients of post-season awards from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) for the 2021–22 season.
Katelyn Sosby, of Jackson Center, has been named Libero of the Year and 1st Team All-Conference. Sosby, a 5-foot-5-inch sophomore defensive specialist, averaged 22 points, 8 service aces, 237 digs, 14 assists, 6 kills, and 16 blocks per game in conference play.
"With all the setbacks with COVID last year, it was very exciting to have a season this year," Sosby said. "It was an honor to receive Libero of the Year and All-OCCAC 1st Team. The world is constantly changing, especially with COVID, so you just have to go out and play every game like it's your last, because it might come sooner than you expect it to."
"Kate is one of the best defensive specialists to ever play at Edison State, and her presence on the court will be missed next season," said Head Coach Julia Brandewie.
Brianna Slusher, of Troy, has been named 1st Team All-Conference and All-Freshman Team. Slusher, a 5-foot-10-inch sophomore middle hitter, averaged 160.5 points, 9 service aces, 107 digs, 4 assists, 135 kills, and 28 blocks per game in conference play.
"It was super exciting to get this award my first year playing at Edison State," Slusher said. "I'm looking forward to coming back and playing again next year."
Sarah Pothast, of Wapakoneta, has been named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Pothast, a 6-foot-1-inch sophomore middle hitter, averaged 104 points, 26 digs, 3 assists, 83 kills, and 30 blocks per game in conference play.
"After the tough changes the past two years, I'm glad that we were able to play and do well within our conference," said Pothast.
"Brianna and Sarah are also some of the best middle blockers to come through Edison State," Brandewie said. "Our offense depends heavily on both of them, and they can deliver when we need a point. Sarah's presence on the court will also be missed; however, Brianna will be returning next season, so I'm very excited to see how she continues to grow and improve."
"I'm incredibly proud of these young women, and their hard work and dedication have paid off. Not only are these young women outstanding athletes, but they're even better students. Each maintains a high GPA."
The Lady Chargers finished the regular season 12-11 overall and 7-4 in the OCCAC. They participated in post-season play during the NJCAA Great Lakes District Tournament.
