Lady Chargers Secure 78-59 Victory Over Cedarville JV
Edison State dominates in a home game behind balanced attack
The Edison State Community College women's basketball team won in impressive fashion Wednesday night, cruising to a 78-59 victory over Cedarville University JV before 150 fans in the Edison State gymnasium.
The Lady Chargers (2-0) showcased their depth and balanced scoring, placing five players in double figures while shooting 44.4% from the field.
Homan Leads the Way
Sophomore Rylie Homan paced the Lady Chargers with a game-high 22 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting performance. Homan also contributed six rebounds, three assists, seven steals, and a block in 19 minutes of action, setting the tone on both ends of the floor.
Balanced Scoring Attack
Four additional Lady Chargers who had a good night:
- Sadie Larrabee posted an impressive all-around performance with seven points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Larrabee was active on the glass and facilitated the Lady Chargers' offense throughout the contest.
- Emerson Walker added six points to go with six assists and a steal, demonstrating her playmaking ability while leading the Edison State attack.
- Emma Will contributed 11 points, four assists, and three rebounds in 24 minutes.
- Presley Reese chipped in five points, including a three-pointer, along with three assists.
Depth Makes the Difference
The Lady Chargers' bench provided quality minutes with Jaela Johnson scoring nine points on 2-of-5 shooting while going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Johnson also had three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Edison State's ability to play all 13 players demonstrated the team's depth, with contributions coming from throughout the roster.
Defensive Effort
The Lady Chargers held Cedarville JV to just 29.2% shooting from the field (19-of-65) and 16.1% from three-point range (5-of-31). Edison State forced 23 turnovers while committing just 16, creating numerous transition opportunities.
Edison State also dominated the glass, out rebounding Cedarville 44-42 while collecting 33 defensive rebounds to limit second-chance opportunities.
Game Flow
The Lady Chargers established control early, building a 23-9 lead after the first quarter. Edison State maintained a comfortable advantage throughout, leading 44-25 at halftime before cruising to the 19-point victory.
Cedarville's Effort
The Yellow Jackets were led by #13's 16 points and #15's 15 points. Cedarville showed fight throughout but couldn't overcome Edison State's balanced attack and defensive pressure.
