Four Basketball Players Receive Postseason Honors
As the women’s and men’s basketball teams wrapped up their regular seasons, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference named four Edison State Community College student-athletes recipients of postseason awards for the 2024-25 season.
As the women's and men's basketball teams wrapped up their regular seasons, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference named four Edison State Community College student-athletes recipients of postseason awards for the 2024-25 season.
The OCCAC selected Allison Hughes, of Rockford, as Player of the Year Runner-up and for the All-OCCAC First Team. Hughes, a 6-foot-2-inch sophomore forward, averaged 13.4 points per game and 14.8 rebounds per game in conference action.
"Allison had another outstanding year," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Tim McMahon. "Her scoring and rebounding played a big part in our earning the conference title. Allison was a great leader and will be truly missed."
The OCCAC named sophomore Abby Yukon Playmaker of the Year. Yukon also landed a spot on the All-OCCAC Second Team. The 5-foot-7-inch guard from Christiansburg averaged 18.1 points per game, along with a total of 29 assists and 20 steals, in conference play.
"Abby could score from everywhere," McMahon said. "She was a tough matchup for our opponents and is a great young lady on and off the court. Abby will have a great future."
Rylie Homan, of Trenton, joins Hughes on the All-OCCAC First Team. Homan, a 5-foot-6-inch guard, averaged 14.7 points per game, along with a total of 69 assists and 45 steals, in conference play.
"Rylie is the best point guard in the league," said McMahon. "She led the conference in steals and assists. We believe Rylie will have another great season in 2025-26."
Additionally, Homan, Hughes, and Yukon all received recognition from the National Junior College Athletic Association on the NJCAA Region XII All-Region Team.
From the men's basketball team, the OCCAC selected sophomore Owen Bronston as Player of the Year Runner-up and for the All-OCCAC First Team. The 6-foot-5-inch guard from Fairfield averaged 25.7 points per game, along with a total of 27 assists and 30 steals, in conference play. Bronston also landed a spot on the NJCAA Region XII All-Region Team.
"Owen's accomplishments are well deserved," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Kyle Vanover. "He's a great teammate, as he always wanted his teammates to be successful. I've said all year that Owen is extremely talented on the court, but he's an even better person off the court. He represented Edison State this year perfectly in every way, and we're excited to see where he ends up next season!"
The Lady Chargers ended the season 22-8 overall and 13-1 in the OCCAC, clinching the conference championship and appearing in the Great Lakes District A semifinals. The Chargers finished their season 12-16 overall and 8-8 in the conference.
