As the men's and women's basketball teams wrapped up their regular seasons, the women finishing with a district tournament appearance, five Edison State Community College student-athletes have been named recipients of post-season awards from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) for the 2022–23 season.
Representing the women's team, Matea Bartel, of Cincinnati, has been named to the Second Team All-Conference. Bartel, a 5-foot-7-inch freshman guard/forward, averaged 12.4 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, and 2.3 assists per game in conference action.
Joining Bartel on the Second Team All-Conference is Ella Hoehne. The 6-foot-1-inch freshman forward from Russia averaged 14.8 points per game, three assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game in conference play.
"Ella and Matea had great seasons, both averaging a double-double in overall points and rebounds. For two freshmen to do that is a great accomplishment," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Tim McMahon. "Earning second team all-league is well deserved. The future is very bright for both of them."
Dana Evans, of Cincinnati, has been named to the Sportsmanship Team. Evans, a 5-foot-8-inch freshman guard, averaged 4.7 points, 1.3 assists, and 0.7 steals per game in conference action.
"Dana is a great teammate," McMahon said. "She's one of the nicest young ladies I know. With Dana, it's always team first."
On the men's team, Jesse Dixon, of Portsmouth, has been named to the Second Team All-Conference. Dixon, a 6-foot-3-inch freshman guard, averaged 14.9 points per game, 1.8 assists per game, and 5.2 rebounds per game in conference play.
"Jesse played at a high level, and his offensive skills helped us compete all year," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Kyle Vanover. "We're excited to watch Jesse's game grow next season!"
Sophomore Montana Cottrell, of Cincinnati, was named to the Sportsmanship Team. Cottrell, a 5-foot-6-inch point guard, averaged 4.5 points per game, 2.1 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game in conference action.
"Montana's leadership over the last three years has been second to none. He battled through the COVID pandemic and continued to stay the course," Vanover said. "He always played the game the right way and has a bright future on and off the court."
The Chargers finished their season 13-16 overall and 5-11 in the conference. The women wrapped up the regular season 17-11 overall and 4-6 in the OCCAC.
