Edison State Falls to Parkland in High-Scoring Battle
Chargers drop home contest despite strong offensive performance
The Edison State Community College men's basketball team battled hard but came up short against Parkland College on Tuesday evening, falling 94-86 in a fast-paced contest at Edison State.
In a game that featured 180 combined points and efficient shooting from both sides, the Chargers (1-1) couldn't quite overcome a talented Parkland squad that shot 55.2% from the field and 87.0% from the free-throw line.
Three Chargers reached double figures in scoring, led by Darian Leslie's game-high 36 points on an impressive 11-of-19 shooting performance. Leslie also connected on 4-of-9 from three-point range and added 10-of-11 from the free-throw line while dishing out three assists.
Malcolm Curry contributed 16 points, four assists, and four rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Frank Lathem added 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace the Chargers on the glass.
Daviyon McDonald provided solid interior play with five points and eight rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
Edison State shot 50.0% from the field (29-of-58) and 35.3% from three-point range (6-of-17), demonstrating offensive efficiency throughout the contest. The Chargers converted 22-of-30 free throws (73.3%) and held a 30-27 rebounding advantage.
Parkland jumped out to a 45-40 halftime lead and maintained control throughout the second half, using balanced scoring and efficient shooting to hold off Edison State's challenges. The Chargers kept the game competitive but couldn't complete the comeback despite Leslie's offensive explosion.
