The Edison State baseball team battled throughout a doubleheader at Owens Community College on Thursday, March 19, but came up just short in both contests, falling 6-4 in game one and 8-7 in game two.
In the opener, Edison State jumped out early and built a 4-0 lead, highlighted by RBIs from Ben DeHart and Tyler Raker. Jackson Clark paced the offense with two hits, while the Chargers showed patience at the plate with six walks.
On the mound, Karson Adkins struck out eight over 4.1 innings, and Hayden Van Hoose added scoreless relief. Despite limiting Owens to just two hits, walks and defensive miscues hurt the Chargers, allowing Owens to score six unanswered runs across the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win.
Game two proved to be another tightly contested battle, with Edison State rallying late but ultimately falling 8-7.
Parker Shannon led the Chargers offensively, delivering a standout performance with four hits, three runs scored, and a home run. Karson Adkins added three RBIs, while Ben DeHart contributed two RBIs as part of an 11-hit effort.
Edison State trailed late but mounted a strong push in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to close the gap. However, Owens held on to secure the one-run victory.
Hayden Peters got the start on the mound, while Nolan Munch took the loss in relief. Despite solid offensive production, defensive errors and timely hitting by Owens proved to be the difference.
Across the doubleheader, Edison State showed offensive consistency and resilience but was unable to overcome key moments that shifted momentum in both games.
The Chargers will look to bounce back as they continue their season at home with a four-game series versus Owens on Friday, March 20, at 1 p.m.
