An annual nationwide tradition, Jackie Robinson Day honors the day Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. Robinson made his major league debut on April 15, 1947, when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dr. Thomas Martinez, a former coach who was instrumental in revitalizing Edison State club baseball, is the visionary of Jackie Robinson Day at Edison State. During the game, fans will be treated to traditional barbecue-style food and giveaways as they cheer on the Charger baseball team in a conference matchup with Owens Community College.
The Edison State baseball team is currently 14-13 overall and 9-3 in conference play, sporting five individual weekly conference awards for outstanding performance on the field. For more information about Edison State baseball, visit athletics.edisonohio.edu.
