Edison State Sweeps Clark State to Qualify for Sub-Districts
Edison State baseball opened up their final conference weekend with Clark State Community College on Sunday, May 7th, sweeping the Eagles to qualify for Sub-Districts.

Jeffrey Mefford, Jr. took the mound one final time of his two-year career at Edison State. Mefford did not disappoint, throwing a complete game with 11 strikeouts in 5 innings while giving up one run on 2 hits. Meanwhile, the offense was hitting on all cylinders. Multiple players had 2 hit games including Dustin Parsons and Roger Tisby. 16 runs got across the plate to put Clark State away in 5 innings.
The Chargers pulled out a tight game in the nightcap after falling behind early, thanks in part to eight unearned runs. Edison State was able to scrap back and eventually go ahead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
At the plate, Edison State was paced by Brandt Cronebach, Dustin Parsons, and Tyler Shamblin. Shamblin having a career day going 3/4 with a double, 2 HR's, and 5 rbi's. Freshman, Jackson Hobbs, started on the mound for Chargers and received a tough luck no decision after surrendering 9 runs of which 1 was earned. Jorge Datil went 3 scoreless innings in relief. Garrett Lee worked a scoreless 8th to pick up the win while William Wells followed in the ninth, striking out all three hitters he faced to earn another save.
Returning to the field on Monday, May 8th, Edison State held on to win a close one by a score of 3-2. Marcus Johnson picked up the win going six innings allowing two runs (1 earned) while striking out 11. William Wells came on again in the ninth on back to back days to strike out the side again to get the save. The chargers were able to produce three runs led by Tyler Shamblin who picked up where he left off on Sunday with two hits including a double.
In game four, starting pitcher Nick Gray picked up the W after going four 2/3 innings giving up no hits but allowing two runs. The game was shortened due to player ejection on Clark State. Edison State was declared the winner after being up 7-2. This completed a four-game sweep and saw Edison State earn a berth into the sub-district tournament.

The Chargers will begin NJCAA Region XII Division II baseball sub-district tournament action this Friday, May 12th at Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus. The Chargers will face Lakeland Community College at 11:00 a.m.
If the Chargers win, they will play in the tournament championship game at 5:00 p.m. vs. the winner of the Cuyahoga CC and Vincennes University game that is played at 2:00 p.m. All games will be held at the same location.
