Justin McCulla was appointed Director of Athletics at Edison State Community College on February 27, 2023. He brings strong leadership, strategic vision and a deep commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience. Since stepping into the role, McCulla has guided the Chargers to new levels of competitive success while reinforcing the department's foundation of academic excellence, integrity and NJCAA compliance.
Under McCulla's leadership, Edison State Athletics has strengthen its competitive presence in NJCAA Division II, expended student-athlete support systems and elevated the college's visibility across the OCCAC and midwest. His efforts have contributed to a culture of accountability, professionalism and student-centered development.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to collegiate athletics administration, McCulla was awarded the Michael Rickard OCCAC Athletic of the Year Award for the 2024-2025 year. This prestigious honor reflects both the progress made within Edison State Athletics and McCulla's broader impact across the conference.
McCulla plays an active role in shaping collegiate athletics beyond campus, serving in multiple leadership capacities within the OCCAC and NJCAA. His regional and national involvement ensures that Edison State remains aligned with best practices and emerging trends in two-year college athletics.
During his tenure, Edison State hs celebrated significant competitive achievements, including:

Before leading the Edison State Athletic Department, McCulla served for eight years as the Director of Athletics at Clark State College. Where he revitalized the athletics department and helped transform the program into a competitive force within the OCCAC. He also served in various roles within Student Affairs. Where he developed expertise in student support, program development and campus engagement. Outside of his administrative career, he officated high school and college football until 2025, where he worked over 400 games, including two state championships.
McCulla earned both his Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration and Master of Education from Urbana University, where he completed his four-year collegiate baseball career after transferring from Wittenberg University.
He resides in Saint Paris, Ohio with his wife and their children.
