As the Edison State Community College softball and baseball teams wrapped up their seasons, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) named eight softball players and one baseball player recipients of postseason awards for the 2024 season.
Representing the softball team, Kaela May, of Tipp City, received the Golden Glove award and was named to the Second Team All-Conference. The sophomore infielder maintained a .365 batting average with two HRs and 13 RBIs in conference play.
"Kaela played solid defense this spring wherever we needed her on the field," said Head Softball Coach Miranda Huddle. "She did a great job making hitting adjustments and was a consistent bat for us at the plate."
The OCCAC named Allison Davis to the First Team All-Conference as a pitcher. Davis, a freshman from Lawrenceburg, Indiana, maintained a 1.91 ERA and threw 30 Ks in conference action.
"Allison did a great job contributing in the circle this season," Huddle said. "She broke the school record for strikeouts in a season, as well as season and career ERA records."
Joining Davis on the First Team All-Conference is utility Anna Quinn, of Tipp City. The sophomore maintained a .294 batting average with seven RBIs and one SB in conference action.
Huddle said, "Anna contributed to the team in multiple ways this season, including in the circle, at the plate, and in the outfield when needed. Anna had many great pitching performances and contributed to our offense in big spots on multiple occasions."
The OCCAC also named catcher Audrey Fyffe to the First Team All-Conference. Fyffe also received recognition on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XII Division II All-Region Team. At bat, the Springfield sophomore maintained a .392 batting average with one HR, 11 RBIs, and two SBs in conference play.
"Audrey was a wall behind the plate as she held down the catching duties for most of the season," said Huddle. "She was a key contributor in our offense, as well as leading the team in hits and RBIs."
The OCCAC also named Alison Cox, of North Lewisburg, to the First Team All-Conference. The sophomore infielder/outfielder maintained a .293 batting average with one HR, 10 RBIs, and three SBs in conference play.
"Ali did a great job this season stepping up wherever the team needed her, whether that was in the infield or the outfield defensively. She played a significant role in our offense with the second-most RBIs and second-most runs scored on the team," Huddle said.
Shay Swick, of Bradford, rounds out Edison State's representation on the First Team All-Conference. Swick also joined Fyffe on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XII Division II All-Region Team. At bat, the freshman catcher/utility maintained a .333 batting average with three RBIs and two SBs in conference play.
"Shay earned a spot in the lineup with her offensive production, whether that was putting the squeeze bunt down or hitting a line drive single to the outfield," said Huddle. "She spent the majority of her innings in left field and made several catching appearances when needed."
The OCCAC named freshman Elise McCann to the Second Team All-Conference. At bat, the infielder/outfielder from Troy maintained a .411 batting average with four HRs, 13 RBIs, and 10 SBs in conference play.
Huddle said, "Elise stepped up big this season, playing the middle infield wherever the team needed her. She held down the leadoff spot in the lineup because of her versatility and being able to start the game with a home run or a bunt single. She finished with the second-most hits on the team, the most runs scored, and the most stolen bases."
Joining May and McCann on the Second Team All-Conference is outfielder Gracee Cassidy, of Xenia. At bat, the freshman maintained a .342 batting average with 10 RBIs and one SB in conference play.
"Gracee made great improvements this year, earning her the starting spot in right field throughout most of the season," said Huddle. "She played a key role in our defense with great communication and her willingness to lay out to go get a ball."
On the baseball team, Landon Clark, of Fortville, Indiana, made the Second Team All-Conference. At bat, the freshman outfielder maintained a .373 batting average with four HRs, 18 RBIs, and seven SBs in conference action.
"Landon is a tremendous talent for us, and a great leader on and off the field," said Head Baseball Coach Chris Wamsley. "Bringing high-level skill to our roster in the outfield and leading the way for us at the plate, Landon is the type of player any coach is blessed to have."
The Chargers finished their season 15-22 overall and 10-16 in the conference. The Lady Chargers finished their season 24-17 overall and 10-6 in the OCCAC with two postseason appearances in the NJCAA Region XII District A tournament in Marysville, Michigan.
