The Edison State Community College basketball teams continued in their winning ways this weekend defeating Wright Patt Air Force Base (WPAFB) and Miami University–Middletown.
The women's team is now 13-0 thanks to a 73-37 win over WPAFB at home Friday night.
The Lady Chargers soared to a 45-10 lead at halftime and coasted from there. Clair Schmitmeyer (Versailles HS) and Riley Culver (Wapakoneta HS) led the team with 13 points each. Kailani Broyles (Massillon Washington HS) and Lauren Monnin (Versailles HS) each added 11 points as well.
The men's team also improved over the weekend following a couple of wins. On Friday, the team won their 11th game of the season defeating Wright Patt Air Force Base 85-62 on their home court.
"Over the years, the Wright Patt Air Force Base men's basketball team has proved to be one of the toughest men's basketball teams in the area. And the team they put on the floor tonight was no exception. They were very big, fast, and shot the ball very well," commented Coach Hickman.
The Chargers, being conscious of their very talented big men were able to make it a full court game minimizing the importance of their inside play. Even though the 18 point intermission lead by the Chargers never increased much in the second half the damage had been done.
The Chargers once again had four players in double-figure scoring with Darryl Robinson (Toledo Bowsher HS) leading that column with 13 points and adding 7 rebounds. Romello Yaqub (Troy HS) had 12 points, Jacob Rogan (Bellefontaine HS) 11 points and Hadith Tiggs (Wayne HS) added 10.
On Saturday, the Charger men grabbed an 83-76 victory over Miami University–Middletown making them 12-2 on the season.
Playing the third game in four days proved to be a huge challenge for the Chargers Saturday night as the first 10 minutes of play was all Miami University–Middletown who sported an early 29-10 lead.
"Our young men have had a lot going on this week with the stress of finals and trying to balance practice and three games. They are as much emotionally as they are physically tired. And through it all, they were able to dig deep tonight and rally from behind. I am extremely proud of their character," commented coach Hickman.
Hadith Tiggs (Wayne HS) led in the scoring column with 20 points and 7 boards followed closely by Romello Yaqub (Troy HS) with 18.
Both teams will return to action on Friday, December 22 at home as they take on OSU–Lima at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
