The Edison State men's basketball team won their 16th game of the season Tuesday evening by defeating Southern State Community College 86-63.
The first half of play proved challenging for the Chargers as the Patriots of Southern State came out hitting 7 threes in the first half on 69% percent shooting from the field.
"Southern State can be a very tough opponent when they are hitting the way they did this first half," commented coach Hickman.
Fortunately, the chargers were able to keep pace by connecting on 5 threes of their own holding on to a narrow 6 point intermission advantage. The second half proved to be all Edison State as they were able to tighten up on the defensive end allowing only 26 second half points for their opponents. The Chargers are now 16-11 on the season.
Dae'Shawn Jackson (Springfield HS) scored 22 points. Zach Ledbetter (Vandalia Butler HS) scored 15 points. Hadith Tiggs (Wayne HS) scored 14 points. Romello Yaqub (Troy HS) scored 13 points on 4 treys and Nick Thompson added 12 points to give the Chargers 5 players scoring double digits on the evening.
The Chargers will be on the road tomorrow evening as they travel to Cincinnati State to take on the Surge at 7:30 p.m.
